I began my photography journey in 2005 when I fell in love with capturing photos of my dogs. Their lifespans being so short, I wanted to create memories of them doing all of the things they loved – eating, running, wrestling and even sleeping. I wanted to remember it all. It never felt like work, but soon I was being hired to do the same for other dog-lovers, and that led to commercial work.
Dogs were the perfect subject for me to learn on. They just go on about their business as if I am not pointing a camera at them. I grew this love for candid moments, particularly action-based, with an opportunity to cover sports for a local college and several high schools. The sports photos opened yet another door, and I fell into a role covering news, community, schools and business for a newspaper.
I started a pet photography business, appropriately named after my first dog, Chops, in 2009. I work one-on-one with pet owners to provide those important memories, and I continue to photograph dogsport events.
When I’m not behind the camera, I’m often snuggled with one of my dogs, enjoying each moment.
